He has worked for or with such companies as Boeing Computer Services, Microsoft, Asymetrix, Compaq, IBM, DEC, Tandy and Zenith. He has worked in Technical Support and Systems Analysis as well as Sales, Marketing, and was general manager of a training division. His direct product experience ranges from Systems Software such as Windows, OS/2, and UNIX to horizontal applications and training developed by Microsoft University, and Asymetrix’s consulting organization. Outside of computing, Mr. Ursino has consulted with and / or provided executive training for diverse organizations such as small Long-Distance phone companies, large telecommunication companies and municipal governments.
In the 20 years since he retired from commercial pursuits, Mark has been an expedition mountain climber, an international traveler, and a self-described, “rabid amateur photographer”. In addition he has a number of philanthropic pursuits, contributing time, talent, and treasure to various organizations, including Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission, The Tacoma Rescue Mission, and Tent City 4, some times as a contributor, and sometimes as a leader.
In 2010, Mark partnered with Mike Johnson to implement Mike’s vision, the “Climbing Out of Homelessness” program. This program took promising men and women in treatment for substance use and gave them the opportunity to participate in team-based outdoor training, ultimately leading to a summit attempt on Mt. Rainier.
In 2016, Mark founded Recovery Beyond to perpetuate the work begun in “Climbing Out of Homelessness.” Since then, Recovery Beyond has re-invented itself into a program that offers a diverse calendar of physical and social activities for all individuals with a past or current struggle with substance use disorder in order to support their recovery journey.
